Jesus did not come to make bad people better but to give dead people life. The only power able to resurrect spiritually dead people is the power of the gospel, which we, the followers of Jesus, have been authorized to proclaim. Another word for the gospel is evangel and those who share it are called evangelists. As we resume our study of spiritual disciplines, we turn our attention to 1 Corinthians 2, where Paul answers 4 very important questions about evangelism.
In1 Timothy 4:7,Paul compares bodily discipline to spiritual discipline and though he doesn’t give Timothy an exhaustive list of soul exercises, he and other New Testament writers give us clues as to what disciplining our soul for godliness looks like. We’ve examinedtwo of those disciplines in recent months,Study the Bible to know GodandPray to know God.Today we focus on the discipline of evangelism as Jesus describes it from Matthew 5 where he calls His followers Salt and Light.
