![]() Are you tired of Thanksgiving leftovers yet? I read recently about a food network show where chefs were competing against judges from another food show in a cook-off and the ingredients they had to work with were Thanksgiving Day leftovers. When it came to rearranging, recombining, and reconstituting leftovers into brand new tasty dishes, the experts had no problem. It’s a amazing how food experts can take a leftover "mess" and turn it into a masterpiece. Similarly, it is even more amazing how Jesus can take the leftover pieces of our lives and turn them into something far more glorious than food dishes. All of us who know Jesus as Savior were a mess at one time but then God who is rich in mercy lavished his love upon us and began turning us into His masterpieces. As we turn our attention back 1 Timothy 4, we find the Apostle Paul revealing how our lives could serve as an example of how God’s grace can turn a mess into masterpiece. Video of Message ![]() One would think that of all the people on the planet most thankful for the blessings in their lives, it would be Christians. One small glance at places like Ephesians 1-2 where God outlines for us the riches we have in Christ would be enough to erase any hesitations. And yet, at times, we struggle as much as those who don’t have a personal relationship with Jesus. Giving thanks is not our default setting. Further proof that we are by nature selfish people who, even after conversion, must train our ourselves to see God’s provision. Disciplining ourselves to see divine opportunities in thorny obstacles is one more affirmation that growing in godliness is not an “automatic” in the Christian life. We must put forth effort, the kind of effort Paul describes in 1 Timothy 4:7-10. We conclude our series on soul care today by examining how to discipline ourselves to be thankful. Video of Message ![]() This is a report from the mission team Mountain View sent to Porto, Portugal; Jeff Winters, Debbie Levand, and Kailey Winters. Video of Message ![]() Retired pastor and author Warren Wiersbe once heard a man pray publicly, "Lord, the only thing we know about sacrifice is how to spell the word." Ouch! Those words stung when I first read them. Sadly, I think the man was right. Far too many Christians (myself included) have bought into the worldly myth which says the person who dies with the most toys wins. Its not just a myth however; its a lie from the pit of hell. To inoculate us from this satanic virus, God has provided many wonderful samples of serum in His Word. One such sample of truth is a parable from Luke's gospel, chapter 16. In today's message, we examine how Christians can use their material resources for good in this world as well as in the world to come. Video of Message |
