Martin Luther is best known as the Father of the Protestant Reformation. He was by no means a perfect man but he was God’s perfect choice to revive the Doctrine of Grace among the religious institutions of 16th Century Europe. As inspiring as Luther's life was, one does not have to read the biographies of the Protestant Reformers to know that God’s grace changes a person. If you have experienced the grace of Jesus Christ then you know that grace works. God’s unconditional love in Jesus Christ, working through our faith, transforms us into a new species of humanity. A new creation that, although no longer depends upon good works to receive God's love, gladly desires good works for His glory. That is an important distinction as we begin looking at our 5th spiritual discipline of the soul - the Discipline of Service.
