Whether you are the kind of person who celebrates the new year with a special tradition or not, we all tend to “mark” the passing of one year and beginning of another. That "mark" might include something formal or informal, public or private. As we say goodbye to 2016 and hello to 2017, it would be good for us to mark the coming of a new church year with a Scripture passage especially relevant for our congregation. In Matthew's account of Jesus feeding the 5000, we are provided a trustworthy template for overcoming the challenges 2017 will bring. Sooner or later, every follower of Jesus experiences a crisis of faith. What we do in that crisis determines whether we become bitter or better. Our story begins in Matthew 14:13.
