The weeks leading up to Christmas are called Advent. Advent, from the Latin word, “adventus”, means "coming" or "arrival." At Christmas we celebrate Christ’s first coming into the world as a child and we say it loudly! But Christmas is also about expectancy - anticipation - and hope not yet realized. Christ came 2000 years ago but Christ is also coming again. Advent therefore is not just about looking back; it's also about looking ahead. In today's message from Romans 8, we consider how Paul depended upon Holy Spirit to sustain him through present difficulties by looking ahead to Christ' second Coming. The pain of life is real but so too is the hope of Christ's imminent return.
